On a PVC mold, the mold base should be made from Stainless Steel or plated to inhibit the oxidation. Cavities and Cores should alos be made of Stainless Steel. With a normal preventitive maintenence of the mold it should be able to produce 2,000,000 cycles.
For tips on improving mold life there is a book, Injection Mold Tooling Standards by WJT Associates, that will give you all the information required. This book is a must have if you are looking to build molds for all of the new engineering material available today.
