how the co-polymer level in PET resin causes intermediate fold or crater generation either top or bottom while reheat blowing specially in 5 gallon bottles.

HELLO VACE,
OPTIMAL BLOWING TEMP.IS JUST ABOVE THE TEMP.WHERE PERLESCENCE APPEARS ON THE BOTTLE.FIRST YOU CHECK THE BLOWING TEMP.AT WHICH PERLESCENCE APPEAR & THEN RISE UPTO 2-3DEG.C. MORE

Dear Vace,

The temperature should be in the range of 95 to 110 deg.
Please check the preblow pressure and speed of the stretching.

And please tell in details which problems do you have while blowing and can be sorted out one by one.

With regards

Hello,
Vace,

110 115 C would work well, depend on moisture content of preform, if high than gradually go bellow 100 C

My experience tells me that you should be working with a temperature 20 Celsius degrees over TG at least and never exceed 45 Celsius degrees over TG.
So, it would mean from 85 to 110 Celsius degrees as general range.
It doesnt depend on weight of preform, but mainly on temperature of internal part of preform. Keep in mind that stretch ratio of internal area of the preform is higher than external. So, ideally, you should have a higher temperature inside the preform than outside.
This is the reason why we use a blower cooling the preform while IR lamps are heating them. This is meant to reduce the difference of temperature across the preform wall. This diference, if too big, causes different stretchs ratios and damages the bottle.

Mauro Bueno
