I need topics related to use of PET Bottles for Tomato Ketchup.
|
I am looking for a bottle that I can use to contain hot sauces and barbeque sauces. I was also under the impression that they needed to be placed in a water bath canner. Do you know if a PET bottle can stand the heat of a water bath canner if necessary? Or, do I just need to heat the sauces to their proper temperature and place in the container and let it cool to room temperature and this vacuums the bottle???

We are looking at plastic bottles only, not glass; I should have made that more clear, sorry. Can you or anyone help with info on this?

If using glass bottle, hot fill needed, 100c temperature 20~30 minutes.

---> Thank you in advance for your feedback <---
We will soon be bottling ketchup and barbecue sauce. It appears that current major manufacturers (Heinz, Hunts, KC Masterpiece, Kraft, etc) use #1 PETE bottles. My questions are as follows:
1) Do tomoato based products such as ketchup and bbq sauce require hot fill?
2) If yes, why and what exactly are hot fill requirements (temp., etc)?
3) If no, why and what are the requirements?
4) If hot fill is required and we wish to keep cost of plastic bottles low, what are the options?
