Speed is the key factor of thin-wall injection.
Hot runner technology helps minimizing of cycle time.
Better mold steel to achieve higher safety level against higher injection pressure.
|
Standard injection machine can be used to do injection of some thin-wall parts. But further demands of thin-wall injection require special injection machines with higher speed and pressure, e.g. injection time less than 0.5 sec, and injection pressure more than 210Mpa.
Thin-wall injection machines have a accumulator to drive injection and clamping normally, and stronger platen to achieve higher clamping force (at least 5~7Ton/Inch^2).
As cycle time of thin-wall injection is very little, less percentage of shot volue is used, 40%~70%, even 20%~30%. Thus screw with less diameter is used.

Normally thin-wall means small parts with wall thickness less than 1mm, or big parts (e.g. auto parts) with wall thickness less than 2mm. Thin-wall injection requires higher pressure, higher speed, shorter cooling time, even different ejection design and layout of injection gate on injection molds.
