Dear Sir,
Is it possible to mix PET resins for 5 gallons High IV and General Purpose PET Resin for small Bottles? What will be the result of this mixture?
Will it result in a material that will give a lower IV than that of 5 Gallon Material?
Purpose is to lower cost, by using 50% Virgin 5 Gallon PET Resins and Recycled Mineral Bottle PET Resins?
Is this possible?

Using long preform we can see that we have a radial stretch of 5,8 and this is the limit before having over stretch, yield phenomena on the material. Talking about the axial stretch 1,5 is too low for use in the better way the PET properties when bi-oriented. The total stretch is 8,7 that is on the border line for 5 gallons application. In fact, we have a low distribution factor.
With the new design we can see a completely different situation:
We have an acceptable radial stretch, 5, that allows a good control of the thickness distribution and guarantee no yield phenomena. Also the axial stretch is good: 1,8 guarantee less presence of amorphous phase and also a better raw material bi orientation. In this case we register a medium/high distribution factor. In fact, the total stretch is 8, lower respect to the value obtained in the standard 5 gal design. according to our experience, is a good value.
