can anyone give me any ideas on correcting a build up of plastic either side of seam as per attached pic. is playing havoc with the sealing of a wedge seal cap. blow pin is clean and tidy, neck tooling is good also? have tried varying amounts of plastic through parison controll to no avail. any ideas would be helpful! thanks

Dear sir,

We are the manufacturer of baby feeding bottle, Pharma and cosmetic bottles from long time we have two kind of procedure for bottle producing method Inj/blow and extrusion blow molding. We want to produce PETG bottle at our extrusion blow machine, is it possible we can run PETG at PC and PVC screw holded extrusion blow molding machine?

we have planed to design the 30 ltr blow moulding machine.for this machine we use the 9omm screw & length is 22D. but I don't know the another parameters like pitch, length of the metering ,feeding and melting zones, width of leads, length of the mixing part and so on.
can you advice on this.?

if you have a drawing of this type of screw please send it to me.

few things to be taken care off:
moisture content of pellets should be less than 0.05% (500ppm)
Polyethene type of lead screw can be used 24:1
regrind levele less than 20%
barrier flight for effective melting
Mold temperature: 12 - 20℃
Screw: diameter 50 mm
Barrel Temp

Barrel Zone 1 195℃
Barrel Zone 2 210℃
Barrel Zone 3 210℃
Barrel Zone 4 210℃
Screw Speed : 30 / min

Connection

Adapter 200℃

Die

Head 185℃
Die Tip 195℃

- Melt Temperature: 225℃
- Melt Pressure: 130 bar

Melt Mass Flow Rate (g/10 min) 4.0 to 35
Injection Pressure (MPa) 86.0 to 97.5

Best of Luck go ahead

Extrusion Blow Molding of PETG
PETG offers high melt viscosity and non-crystalline properties suitable for extrusion blow Molding. It can be used for thick walled container such as cosmetic bottles.

Screw Design:
• Low shear type is preferred to avoid shear and thermal degradation.
• L/D: 24:1 or greater (i.e. works with general polyethylene screw)
• Compression ratio: 2.5:1 - 3:1
• Barrier flight for effective melting
• Tip: Maddock mixing is better to removal of gels & unmelts

General Guidelines:
Mold temperature: 12 - 20℃
Usage of regrind
- Contents of regrind: < 20%
- Drying before processing- moisture content <0.05% (500ppm)
- Filter fines to prevent fish-eye

• Screw: diameter 50 mm

Barrel Temp

Barrel Zone 1 195℃
Barrel Zone 2 210℃
Barrel Zone 3 210℃
Barrel Zone 4 210℃
Screw Speed : 30 / min

Connection

Adapter 200℃

Die

Head 185℃
Die Tip 195℃

- Melt Temperature: 225℃
- Melt Pressure: 130 bar

Melt Mass Flow Rate (g/10 min) 4.0 to 35
Injection Pressure (MPa) 86.0 to 97.5

Note: only thing to be taken care is off material- which has to be pre dried and stored properly or drying it at following temperatures:

Drying Temperature- 65 -71.5℃
Drying Time - Min.6 Hrs / Max.12 Hrs
Dew Point of Dry Air - < -30℃, -40℃ is better for good drying
Residual Moisture Contents - < 0.05% (500ppm)
Capacity of Hopper - 6-12 times extruder output
Height / Diameter Ratio - > 2:1, 3:1 is better for plug flow of materials
Insulation - Good Insulation to improve the efficiency

Good Luck......go ahead

In stretch blow molding of PET preform, specifically for biaxial orientation the most important thing is the strain hardening point (SHP).Basically four parameters determine the onset of strain hardening point.
1. I.V of the preform
2. Temperature of the preform in reheating condition.
3. Co-polymer level of the preform.
4. Moisture level (aging) of the preform.
As preform has been designed as par bottle size so for low volume bottle (how much volume) if NSR (natural stretch ratio) is less than go for PET homopolymers.

I need some advice about which parameters in stretch blow molding are more useful to get a low volume bottle.

I think the PVC screw will be enough, but remember PETG is an hygroscopic material so you should Dry the resin before; a laping finished on the mold is recomended for best performance.

DEAR SIR,
IS IT POSSIBLE TO PROCESS PET AND PP RESIN IN SAME MACHINE BECOUSE THE STRETCHING RATIO IS DIFFERENCE SO IT WILL EFFECT ON THE MACHINE PLS SUGGEST
THANK YOU.

Hi,
I am a Ph.D student who has been studying on PET bottle. I am interested in bottle durability against cracking with carbonated soft drinks. Now, I need to know process conditions of a PET bottle of 1500 ml.

Thanks to everyone....

Dear Shahryar,

You can find good suppliers on the net. For hot filing you need crystalized neck preforms, ask the machine supplier for a version which has a process for making hot fill bottles.

Re: Adapting machine for PETG
Unless you are thinking of moulding very small PETG bottles I strongly recommend that you abandon this idea.
Trust me on this one, using any type of PET material in extrusion blow moulding is a ton of trouble. Many very good companies have tried and given up in despair. The ''processing window'' of this material is very narrow.
